SUMMARY:Beginner Watercolor Class
DESCRIPTION:Beginner Watercolor Class with O’Lynda Walker\nCLASS DESCRIPTION:\nStudents will tear their full sheet of Arche watercolor paper in half\, and a quarter\, and eighth sections. \nStudents will learn the consistency of watercolor applications: tea\, coffee\, milk. \nThe student will become familiar with several professional watercolor brands. They will also learn how to determine if a tube of paint is opaque or transparent\, and how these properties influence painting. \nThe student will use a variety of professional brushes to mix primary colors\, producing secondary hues. They will mix a variety of greens\, black\, and explore values with each color made. \nStudents will control watercolors to produce washes for sky\, land\, and water. They will learn what causes a bloom and how to repair blooms. \nStudents will develop soft edges: soft\, hard\, and lost edges\, and the value of using negative painting in watercolor. \nThe student will draw or trace\, paint\, and apply the correct color & paint application of three fruits: apple\, banana\, and pear. \nIf time allows\, the student will build a painting of a birch tree landscape using negative painting and glazing techniques. Also if time permits\, a painting using tulips. \n\nWHEN: June 27th\, 2026\nTIME: 10 am – 4 pm\nWHERE: Stanly Arts Guild. 152 W. Main St\, Albemarle\nCLASS SIZE: min 3\, max 6\nCLASS FEE:  $80.00 SAG Members\, $90.00 non-members\nSUPPLIES FEE: $25.00  In an attempt to not have students purchase items they may or may not use again\, the Supplies Fee will allow the students to sample professional level materials without a large commitment. Supplied by instructor: the instructor will provide several brands of professional brushes to explore strokes and washes\, one pallet\, several brands of professional paint in the primary colors (yellow\, two reds\, blue\, burnt sienna)\, carbon paper\, tracing paper\, and a color wheel.  \n\nSTUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING: \n1. One Full Sheet of Arche 100% cotton\, 140 lb\, 300 g/m paper\, 22 inches x 30 inches. This can be purchased at a local art store in Charlotte such as Jerry’s Art Arama or online at Blick Art (check for sales)\, double check for authenticity at Hobby Lobby. It should be about $16.00 per sheet.\n2. One old terry cloth towel\, such as a hand towel or dish cloth to absorb water under your support.\n3. One placemat\, clear or plain (not a printed surface)\, on which the Arche paper will mount for painting.\n4. Masking tape\, or blue painter’s tape\, or like tape.\n5. HB or #2 Pencil\, and sharpener\n6. Water Container\n7. Paper towels or small roll of toilet tissue\n8. White ceramic plate of any shape\, about 6-8 inches. Please do not bring plastic. \n

DESCRIPTION:Discover Pastels with Malia Bryngelson\nWhether you’re new to the amazing medium of soft pastel (not oil pastel)\, or you’d like to experiment with more creative techniques in pastel\, this is the workshop for you! Discover the wonderful possibilities of painting with this versatile and forgiving medium!\nFor artists new to the medium\, you’ll learn about the best materials and methods to get you up to speed creating successful paintings.\nFor those artists who have experience in pastel\, you’ll get try other art media that compliment pastel\, and new exciting ways to use them to express your artistic ideas.\nIn this relaxed class atmosphere\, you will learn about the best materials to use\, techniques for applying the pastel to achieve different textures\, and tools and products that give the artist a successful outcome for their painting.\nIf you want to be a part of the class but don’t want to purchase a lot of supplies\, everything will be available by the instructor for you to try. \nMalia is a pastel artist from Locust\, North Carolina. She has studied pastel painting with many nationally known pastel artists. Malia’s award-winning work has been included in state and national exhibitions. Her paintings received a first place and Honorable Mention award in the animal category of Pastel Magazine Pastel 100 Competition. \nClass Fee: $60.00 (SAG Members $50.00) \nSUGGESTED Supply List (Don’t worry if you don’t have everything because I always bring extra supplies) \n\nReference photos. Select subjects meaningful to you and that you feel confident drawing. Ideally they should have a good range of dark\, medium and light values.\nWhatever pastels (not oil pastels) you might have.
