SUMMARY:Expressive Mixed Media Painting Series - Reductive Painting with Texture
DESCRIPTION:This is the 1st in a series of 3 classes designed for anyone that wants to have fun with mixed media painting! Each class in the series explores a different way to create texture in painting. You will use acrylic paint with other media in each class. Take one class\, a couple of them or all 3 – it’s up to you.\nThe 1st class will use a reductive painting process over a colorful underpainting where you will develop lots of 2-D texture.\nClass fees must be paid when you register. Registration ends one week prior to the class date. There is a minimal supply fee of $5 for each class to cover instructor provided supplies.\nThe instructor is Susan Lackey. Susan has been painting for many years and has won numerous awards in local\, state and national juried exhibitions. She is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of NC.\nCost per class is $45 for SAG members and $55 for non-members. You will be provided with a list of supplies you need to bring when you register. Register at the Stanly Arts Guild (SAG) store.\nThe next classes will be in July & September\, dates to be decided soon!

DESCRIPTION:Although we have been having an annual photography show for several years now\, this is the 1st show named after the late Dwight J. Dennis\, one of our most passionate members\, and an avid and talented photographer. This show was especially dear to him and we could think of no better way to remember him than to name the show in his honor. \nThe show runs from April 20th thru May 14th\, 2022. DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Betsy Hollar \nThis class is for advanced level portraits\, open to those with knowledge of drawing tools\, how to shade\, etc. The class will focus on watching as Betsy draws\, then students will draw. The class will not be focused on leaving with a finished portrait. The focus is for students to develop their skills and learn to fine tune smaller details. This class is recommended for students that have taken previous portrait drawing classes from Betsy. \nThe class fee of $45.00 includes all supplies.

DESCRIPTION:This show is open for entries from members of the Stanly Arts Guild. Categories for judging are 2-D\, including photography\, & 3-D art. There is no age limit on the art entered. Any art entered cannot have won a ribbon in any other SAG art show/event. Fees for entries are $5 per entry\, no limit on the number of entries. Prize money will be based on entry fees collected\, the more entries\, the higher the prize money. Other limitations for entries apply – see the show prospectus for details. Art take-in will be 01/17/20 from 12-5 & 01/18/20 from 12-4. Stanly Arts Guild memberships will be accepted during take-in for this show. SUMMARY:Working With Polymer Clay
DESCRIPTION:Be sure to sign up for this exciting new Polymer Clay workshop on October 5th\, 2019.  This workshop will begin at 10:30am and end by 2:30pm.  The cost is $30 and all supplies are provided.  This is open to ages 14 and over. \nThe instructor is the phenomenal Michelle Efird\, a “polymer clay freak extraordinaire”!!  Michelle creates true works of art with her clay and sells them here in the Stanly Art Guild’s store. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn the basics of working with polymer clay\, such as brands\, conditioning\, curing\, tools\, etc. You will learn to make a “cane” of clay (not what you may think)\, and you will be using this to make a pendant and/or a keyring .  Attendees will need to bring a bag lunch and a beverage.  A quick break will be taken around 12:15. \n

DESCRIPTION:Scarves are a great fashion statement. Wouldn’t you like to make one for yourself as a gift?  Sherry Dane will get you started on your scarf during this class. First\, you will learn to do the basic stitches.  After you feel comfortable with those\, you will begin your project.  You will need to bring the yarn you’d like to use for your scarf.  Usually\, the packaging will tell you what size crochet needle to get.  If you want to practice on samples or a small project\, Sherry will have yarn you can use.   This will allow you to learn without committing to a project right away.

SUMMARY:Signs Signs Everywhere A Sign
DESCRIPTION:This class will teach you how to make and paint a “vintage” sign that will become a magnet. All items needed will be supplied. You will have a choice between four sign shapes.  The outline will be traced onto the shape.  Then the real fun begins!  She will guide you in the painting techniques to make it look real.  Once completed\, the magnet will be attached\, and voila!  You will have a beautiful magnet for yourself or someone special.  Al (Alisha) Jones will be your instructor.

SUMMARY:Summer Art Explosion Show
DESCRIPTION:Stanly Arts Guild is calling all artists to bring in your art for the Annual Summer Art explosion Show. It starts on July 16\, 2019 and ends on August 10\, 2019 with a reception from 6pm – 8pm on the 10th.  Art entries will be accepted on Friday\, July 12 between noon and 5pm\, and on Saturday\, July 13 between 10am and 4pm.  Accepted art forms are two dimensional (including photography) and 3 dimensional.  Participating artists must be 18 or over.  Entry fees are as follows: \nGuild Members – $35 for two pieces and $10 each for up to two additional entries. (4 total entries allowed) \nNon – Guild Members – $40 for two pieces and $15 for up to two additional pieces. (4 total entries allowed) \nPlease call Stanly Arts Guild at 704-983-4278 if you have any additional questions. \nOur judge for this year’s show will be Mark Stephenson.  He is a full time artist\, based in Salisbury\, NC.  He is a graduate of Pfeiffer University\, NC State University\, and UNC-Greensboro\, where he earned degrees in Civil Engineering and Vocal Performance.  In the 1990’s he studied art in the prestigious Art Student League with noted painters and sculptors Frank O’Cain\, Leonid Lerman\, and Ron Sherr.  Success at the Art League ushered in awards and commissions\, including acceptance at the Metropolitan Museum of copyists program.  He returned to North Carolina in 2006 and has devoted much of his time to commissioned portraits. Mark lives in Salisbury with his wife\, and has two children\, James and Emma. \n                                                                    \n

SUMMARY:Batik Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come learn how to create a unique Batik painting on fabric in this workshop.  Batik is an art technique and you will create an original 14″ X 18″ painting in a modified version. No painting experience is necessary.
