DESCRIPTION:Discover Pastels with Malia Bryngelson\nWhether you’re new to the amazing medium of soft pastel (not oil pastel)\, or you’d like to experiment with more creative techniques in pastel\, this is the workshop for you! Discover the wonderful possibilities of painting with this versatile and forgiving medium!\nFor artists new to the medium\, you’ll learn about the best materials and methods to get you up to speed creating successful paintings.\nFor those artists who have experience in pastel\, you’ll get try other art media that compliment pastel\, and new exciting ways to use them to express your artistic ideas.\nIn this relaxed class atmosphere\, you will learn about the best materials to use\, techniques for applying the pastel to achieve different textures\, and tools and products that give the artist a successful outcome for their painting.\nIf you want to be a part of the class but don’t want to purchase a lot of supplies\, everything will be available by the instructor for you to try. \nMalia is a pastel artist from Locust\, North Carolina. She has studied pastel painting with many nationally known pastel artists. Malia’s award-winning work has been included in state and national exhibitions. Her paintings received a first place and Honorable Mention award in the animal category of Pastel Magazine Pastel 100 Competition. \nClass Fee: $60.00 (SAG Members $50.00) \nSUGGESTED Supply List (Don’t worry if you don’t have everything because I always bring extra supplies) \n\nReference photos. Select subjects meaningful to you and that you feel confident drawing. Ideally they should have a good range of dark\, medium and light values.\nWhatever pastels (not oil pastels) you might have. Ideally bring a mix of hard and soft pastels in a good range of dark\, medium and light version of each color.\nNuPastels from Prismacolor are a good choice to learn with\nA backing board or drawing board (a half sheet of Dollar store foam core board works very well)\nTable easel\nBaby wipes for your hands\nA sketch book and soft pencils or charcoal\nAn apron or old shirt\nArtist’s tape or drafting tape\nOld brushes in various sizes\nI will supply Uart paper for everyone.\n\nMore about Malia: https://stanlyartsguild.com/malia-bryngleson/

DESCRIPTION:The 18th Annual Ellen Cook Gaskin Nature At Its Best Art Exhibition & Competition \nThe family of Ellen Cook Gaskin has graciously sponsored this competition and show in their mother’s honor. Mrs. Gaskin was a talented artist and had a deep love of nature and all of its wonder and beauty. Entries in this competition should have a nature theme using one of the following as guidelines: fish\, fur\, feather\, field\, forest\, or flower. Both 2-D and 3-D art are welcomed as entries. Awarded prizes are 1st\, 2nd\, 3rd\, and up to 4 honorable mentions. In addition\, Stanly Arts Guild members vote on their favorite entry and a “Members’ Choice” is awarded with a ribbon and cash prize. All entries must be no more than 2 years old.
