Native American Style Artist

I attribute a lot of my artistic background to my grandmother. My Native American roots come from her husband, my grandfather. They were from the North Carolina mountains.
She painted. I paint.
She did upholstery. I do upholstery.
My grandfather was a Methodist minister. I tend to think of him in the spirit of a shaman.
I started working with feathers as a child. The jewelry came later. Jewelry lets me concentrate on a small thing, and is a meditation in a way. Along my journey, I got interested in making Native American flutes. My family is very musical, and it was a natural progression to make flutes.
I dance at Pow Wows. I also do demonstrations.
Being a member of Stanly Arts Guild as made me grow in areas I didn’t expect to artistically. It has changed the way I look at art. I hope The Guild has also changed the way other people look at art. Sometimes it takes a lot of encouragement to be able to get the courage to put your art out there, and joining The Stanly Arts Guild has given me that.
Sometimes we need another person to tell us ‘don’t obsess about mistakes, just do it first then worry about the mistakes later.’
Art is in a lot of areas of life. I encourage anyone interested in art to join a guild and explore their artistic side.
